Nizzolo Wins The Tour De San Luis Third Stage

Trek Factory Racing scored their second win of the season when Giacoma Nizzolo won the third stage of the Tour De San Luis in Argentina.

A 175.8km stage from Tilisarao to Juana Koslay was in stall for the riders who included British rider Adam Yates in the Young Riders jersey.

Almonacid, Barrientos, Curuchet, Koretzky, Ramos and Maldonado started the first real attack and built a lead of 2.52 inside the opening twenty kilometres.

That lead had extended by a minute with 95 kilometres to go but twenty kilometres later, that was down to 1.45.

Juan Curuchet of the Argentina team took the points on the first sprint of the day ahead of Almonacid of the Chilean team and Maldonado of the Uruguay team as the peloton split and about fifty riders formed a chasing group.

The breakway was caught by this group with 55kms to go ahead of three other groups of riders on the road.

Pieter Weening of Orica Green Edge took the second sprint ahead of  Jonathan Guzmán and Daniel Díaz. on a day where temperatures were at thirty eight degrees.

Cannondale's Marcato, Weening, Diaz from San Luis and Lucero from Androni took to the front and had a 35 second lead with 18kms to go.

Their time at the front lasted until the eight to go mark and the sprint was on.

Mark Cavendish led out Tom Boonen but up came Trek's Giacomo Nizzolo to take the win in 4/14/19 ahead of Francisco Ventoso, Boonen, Farrar, Appollonio, D.Caruso, Phinney, Arango, Avila and De Maar.

Phillip Gaimon keeps his leader's jersey for another day with a 1.47 lead over De Maar of the United Healthcare team and 3.56 ahead of Cameron Meier of Orica Green Edge. 

Adam Yates continues to lead the Young Riders competition ahead of  Caio Godoy and Lucas Gaday. 

Unitedhealthcare lead the team classification, with a 1.52 lead over  Equipo San Luis Somos Todos and 2.23 over Orica-Greenedge.
