Vincenzo Nibali hammered more time into Cadel Evans as the Astana rider won the second individual time trial at the Giro D'Italia.

Stage eighteen comprised of a 20.6km individual mountain time trial from Mori's velodrome to Polsa.

Early time setter was Euskatel's Miguel Minguez who finished in a time of  48.55. Being early, this time was never going to stand and it was British rider Steve Cummings of BMC who finished 1.47 ahead of Minguez with a time of 47.08.

Unfortunately, Movistar's Alex Dowsett who had won the first time trial of the race, did not find the course to his liking and finished 2.48 down on Cummings.

Mark Cavendish fared little better, coming in at 52.54 but he did receive a massive cheer and a chorus of O Sole Mio by the 500 tifosi on the finish line.

Cumming's time stood until Movistar's Eros Capecchi finished in 46.55, some thirteen seconds quicker and Dario Cataldo came in at 46.10.

As the times continued to tumble, Stef Clement finished in 46.05 and Cannondale's Damieno Caruso went sixteen seconds quicker.

With all of the riders now having gone down the ramp and the rain now coming down, Euskatel's Sammy Samuel came home in 45.27.

Vincenzo Nibali was flying round the course and had put 1.23 into Cadel Evans by the halfway stage.

Rafal Majka did enough to take the young riders jersey off Carlos Betancur before Nibali closed down on Evans, who finished in 47.05 in 24th and out of the points positions.

In came the race leader Vincenzo Nibalii to win win a time of 44.29, some 58 seconds ahead of Sanchez.

Nibali now leads Evans by 4.02 and 4.12 ahead of Rigoberto Uran whilst Mark Cavendish remains in the points jersey.
