Moncoutie Wins La Vuelta 11th Stage

David Moncoutie won the 11th stage of the Vuelta a España but Bradley Wiggins is now the race leader. 

Nineteen riders broke away after thirty kilometres of this stage to Manzaneda ski station, which saw Martin Velits and Lobato withdraw.

Montaguti took the first two climbs of the day and was second in the third climb to David Moncoutie.

With over seven and a half minutes lead, Adrian Palomares broke away to take the both intermediate sprints and then get twenty six seconds ahead of second placed Jorgensen as Stuart O'Grady came up to try and bring him back.

He was brought back and with thirteen kilometres, Pauliniho was now in front before David Moncoutie took over. Chris Froome was at the back of a pelton which had Bradley Wiggins and Daniel Martin leading at the front but it was Moncoutie who won in a time of 4hr 38 mins.

Wiggins came in 13th and now takes the leaders red jersey with a seven second lead over Froome.

 

 

 

Tomorrow's 12th stage is from Ponteareas to Pontevedra and is 167.3 km long
