Meersman Wins Tour Of Romandie Stage Three

Omega Pharma Quick Step's Gianni Meersman won the Tour Of Romandie Stage Three in Switzerland.

Payerne was the setting for the start and finish of a 181km stage which saw Marcus Berghardt take the first two climbs as six riders broke away.

A new break away developed with 37kms to go and included Team Sky Richie Porte as the rain started to come down and an autobus at the back featuring Mark Cavendish formed.

Gasparotto and Stortoni attacked with 18kms remaining. They were chased down and BMC's Dominic Nerz and Blanco's Steven Kruijswijk who was 31 seconds down tried to get away but were caught with 12.4kms left.

On wet roads, Malori of Lampre went for bust with two kilometres to go. He was caught with 400ms to go and the bunch sprint started and it was Gianni Meersman who won in a time of 4.19.03, beating Gavazzi and Albasini.
