Irishman Dan Martin crashed out of the Giro D'Italia as Orica Greenedge took the Team Trial in a rainy Belfast.

Colombia were the first team down the ramp for this 21km stage around Belfast. They lost riders and finished with five in 26.05.

Next were Orica Greenedge. The Australian team which was one of the favourites, finished in 24.42, which was the new fastest time.

It was a time which was not to be beaten as the rain came down and made conditions exceedingly difficult for time trialling.

Tinkoff-Saxo, who were led by Irishman Nicholas Roche went second after finishing in a time of 25:05.

AG2R had just come in seventh when out on the road, there was a crash amongst the Garmin Sharp riders. Down was Dan Martin after hitting a manhole cover and unfortunately, he was out, A suspected broken collar bone saw him taken to hospital and out of the race. His team mate Koldo Fernandez also needed treatment but was able to get back on his bike and finish some ten minutes down on the time of Orica Green Edge.

Ryder Hesjedal was able to lead four riders over the line but they were 3.26 down and Garmin were in last place.

Team Sky finished thirty five seconds down and although Omega Pharma Quick Step led by Rigoberto Uran and BMC led by Cadel Evans rode well they could not get near the time set by Orica Green Edge, who will have Sven Tuft in the Maglia Rosa for the second stage.
