Team Sky's Mark Cavendish won the fifth stage of the Giro D'Italia today.

A 209km stage from Modena to Fano saw race leader Ramunas Navardauskas in the peloton some 5.40 behind a five man then a four man break.

As we approached the 100kms to go mark, the four in Allesandro Di Marchi, Oliver Kaisen, Bulgac Brian and Paolo De Negri were six miutes and six seconds clear.

De Negri took the intermediate sprint on a glorious day with 44kms to go before there was a crash involving Lucas Haedo and Taylor Phinney had a mechanical.

On the Gabbice Monte King Of The Mountains climb, De Negri took the climb before another crash took down two BMC riders.

With 28.7kms to go, Di Marchi and De Negri were back in the peloton.

The peloton with Team Sky towards the front was heading for a bunch sprint as they passed the coast.

Back into the Town, Adam Hansen was off the front in what was a straight run in. The sprint started with a kilometer to go. Mark Cavendish, who had his baby daughter waiting for him at the finish line, was lead out and beat Matt Goss to win in a time of 4:43:15.
