Lobato Wins Ruta Del Sol Stage Two

Juan Jose Lobato of Movistar has won Stage Two of the 61st Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol in Southern Spain.

Alberto Contador was in the lead after the opening stage and time trial for stage two which was a 194.7km stage from Utrera  to Lucena and without British rider Steve Cummings who did not start due to illness.

Pirmin Lang (IAM), Sjoerd Van Ginneken (Roompot), Adrian Honkisz (CCC), Nicholas Dougall (MTN) and Aleksandr Komin (Rusvelo) formed the day's break and were 2.26 ahead early on before extending that lead to 4.15.

Van Ginneken took the first sprint of the day as their lead steadied at 4.24 with 89kms to go.

The five escapers stayed away until they were caught with twenty kilometres remaining and on the final climb, Edet launched an attack before being caught with 7.3 kilometres left.

Carlos Quntero was next to attack but he took was not to remain clear and so Team Sky's Peter Kennaugh tried his luck. The Manx man battled but was brought to heel with 1.2kms left and although race leader Alberto Contador briefly led, JJ Lobato of Movistar was able to take the win in 4.51.54 ahead of John Degenkolb of Giant Alpecin, Grega Bole of CCC Sprandi, FDJ's Arthur Vichot and Eduardo Parades of Caja Rural, followed by Ratto, Bilbao, Theuns, Duyn and Naesen.

Chris Froome finished in 12th place which lifts him to third in the general classification that is led by Alberto Contador with Peter Kennaugh in fifth.
