Sweden’s Gustav Larsson failed to set a new distance for the UCI World Hour Record in Manchester.

Larsson, of Cult Energy needed to beat Rohan Dennis' distance of 52.4901kms but at the National Cycling Centre, the 34 year old was not on the pace and after thirty minutes was down on his target by over a minute or four laps of the track which has been hosting the Revolution Series, which can been seen next weekend on Channel 4 on March 21st at 7pm.

At the end of the hour, Larsson had recorded a distance of 50.016km which was good enough for the Swedish record but ten laps short of the record set by Dennis of BMC.

Larsson tweeted: "Feeling a bit down.. But after the first five minutes I understood that tday was not going to be my day.

"Obviously not at all like i planned.. Pedaling in squares don't help that much! Good experience though.

"Graeme Obree would tell you to do it again as soon as possible” I might take him up on that".
