Katusha's Joaquim Rodriquez won the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya as Astana's Lieuwe Westra won the final stage in Barcelona.

Rodriquez went into the final seventh stage of 120.7kms from Barcelona to Barcelona (Montjuic) with a four second lead over Alberto Contador.

King Of The Mountains leader and Stage Six winner Steff Clement of  Belkin, along with Westra, Burghardt, Ratto, Pineau, Valle, Voeckler, Quemeneur, Beppu, Paterski, Bagot, Baugnies and Kreder formed an early front group.

Some 3.15 ahead after forty kilometres on a very wet day in the Catalan capital, Clement took the points on two intermediate climbs.

At the first crossing of the finish line, they had a lead of 3,41 and 3.21 after the second crossing of a seven kilometre circuit.

Lieuwe Westra tried to attack off the front, followed by Paterski, Bagot and Voeckler as did Joaquin Rodriquez out of the peloton to try and put some more time between him and Alberto Contador.

With 27kms to go, Voeckler attacked with Westra and Paterski with Burghardt and Bagot getting back into this lead group.

Westra, who had lapped some riders attacked again as Brambrilla and Pinot caught up to the escapers after getting free of the clutches of the peloton.

Westra was not to be caught and took 45 seconds on the chasers and three minutes on the peloton.

With two kilometres to go, Alberto Contador attacked but Joaquim Rodriquez followed him and it was all over.

Up front, Westra took the win in a 2.36.13. A minute and twenty two seconds later, Marcus Burghardt of BMC finished second ahead of Voeckler and two minutes and seven seconds later, a delighted Rodriquez came over the line to win the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
