Katusha's Vladimir Isaychev won the fifth stage of the Tour De Suisse this afternoon.

A day of seven category three climbs on this 193km stage from Trimbach/Olten to Gansingen.

Rain again greeted the 151 riders and there was a crash with 21kms gone which took out Ivan Velasco of Euskaltel who went to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone and Matt Wilson of Orica-GreenEdge.

Twenty four kilometres later, we had the first real break of the day and Vladimir Isaychev (Katusha), Daniel Oss (Liquigas-Cannondale), Salvatore Puccio (Sky), Klaas Lodewyck (BMC), Ruben Perez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Sebastien Minard (AG2R) and Karsten Kroon (Saxo Bank) all went away.

They got 10.20 ahead but with no-one likely to affect the yellow shirt of race leader Rui Costa, the peloton's willingness to bring them back was not immediately evident.

With 60kms to go, they were 9.30 out in front. Only fifteen seconds had been pulled back when Lodewyck of BMC decided to go on his own with 23kms to go.

Vladimir  Isaychev went after him, caught the BMC rider and took the final climb to put himself in the King Of The Mountains jersey ahead of Frank Schleck.

The other five after Lodewyck had dropped back caught up  ahand with 8kms to go, it was going to be one of those six who got the win.

With five kilometres to go, the games of cat and mouse started as their gap at the front increased to 10.26.

Sebastien Minard tried to attack but Oss and Perez were straight on his tail.

Under the flam rouge, Perez was on the front but he had to settle for second as Vladimir  Isaychev took his ever stage win in a UCI race in a time of 4.58.28 and collected his Gueyere cheese.

Puccio was third whilst the peloton way back down the road had to move out of the way for an ambulance after a motorcyclist was hit by a car at the finish.

Some eleven minutes later, the peloton came home and Rui Costa was able to keep his leaders yellow jersey.
