With the Tour de France drawing towards its conclusion, former World Champion Hugh Porter MBE, the voice of the Aviva Tour of Britain on ITV4 and around the world, will take part in this year's Aviva Tour Ride, the official mass participation sportive of the Aviva Tour of Britain.

Four time World Champion and Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Hugh Porter MBE will be riding the sportive, which takes place in Worcestershire on Sunday 4 October, as he celebrates his 75th birthday year and to raise funds for the Compton Hospice in Wolverhampton.

"I decided to ride the official sportive of the Aviva Tour of Britain this October not only to celebrate my 75th birthday this year but also to raise money for the Compton Hospice, which is a cause very close to my heart,” said Hugh Porter MBE.

"The Aviva Tour Ride is a great chance for people to have a fun day out cycling with hundreds of other riders in a professionally organised event, so I hope lots of people take the chance to ride in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside.  Anybody who wants to join me on the Ride would be most welcome, especially all of the lads I used to race with!”

Hugh, who was Individual Pursuit Champion in 1968, 1970, 1972 and 1973 and Commonwealth Games Champion in 1966, will be riding the 40-mile Challenge route, which starts from the University of Worcester Arena, finishing on the neighbouring Worcester Racecourse.

Cyclists can sign-up to ride with Hugh on the 40-mile route, or take on the challenge of longer 75 or 100-mile routes, both of which also start and finish in Worcester.

Taking place on Sunday 4th October the three route options will showcase some of the most attractive, and hardest, roads in Worcestershire, as used by previous editions of British Cycling's premier road cycling event, the Aviva Tour of Britain.

The Aviva Tour Ride, which was launched in 2009, is the official sportive of the Aviva Tour of Britain and Aviva Women's Tour races, giving amateur cyclists the chance to have the professional experience and enjoy a full supported ride with feed stations supplied by sport nutrition company Etixx and the Tour's neutral service partners Vittoria providing mechanical support for riders.
