The final day in Denmark before the flight to Verona tomorrow, was a 190km stage around Horsens which started with a minute's silence for Woulter Weylandt who was killed on the third stage of last years race.

Six riders went away before Balloni took the the 4th category Ejer Bavnehoj climb to keep his lead in the King Of The Mountains jersey,

With 24 kms to go and the breaks were over thanks to some good work by Team Sky again and FDJ and Lars Bak went away for tweleve kilometres before the peloton including race leader Taylor Phinney came back together with 11.5km to go.

The field was strung out with just over four kilometres to go with yesterday's winner Mark Cavendish at the front followed by South African Robbie Hunter and Mark Renshaw.

Green Edge were at the front in the final kilometre. The sprint opened up. Mark Cavendish, who had been lead out by Geraint Thomas went down in a crash, started by Roberto Ferrari, along with Taylor Phinney and the World Championship was extremely lucky not to have been hit by other riders..

Matt Goss avoided the crash and took the win in 4:20:50 whilst Cavendish had to carry his bike over over the line in order to get a finish time.

JJ Haedo was second with Tyler Farrar third.

Taylor Phinney looked to have broken his ankle but according to the provisional reports.he got over the line to keep his Maglia Rosa jersey ahead of Geraint Thomas.

Wednesday's stage is a team time trial around Verona.
