Gilbert Wins Tour De Wallonie Stage 3

Philippe Gilbert of BMC has won the third stage of the Tour De Wallonie.

Stage three from Bastogne to Namur was 207kms long and had Niki Terpstra in the race lead.

Cyril Lemoine, Antoine Duchesne, Gediminas Bagdonas, Gatis Smukulis and Ludwig De Winter formed the days break and were still 5.30 ahead of the peloton with seventy kilometres left, after a big crash had seen  Tsatevich and Napolitano taken to hospital and Boeckmans, Ahlstrand, Dumoulin & Roulston having to abandon.

By the time, De Winter had taken the seventh KOM of the day, the gap was down to 3.55 on a cloudy day in Belgium.

Duchesne took the third intermediate sprint in a competition led by  Drucker as the gap dropped to 2.25 going into the final twenty five kilometres.

Smukulis was dropped by the front group and after Lemoine had taken the eighth climb,  Lemoine and Duchesne had a 22 second lead to  Badognas, 36 seconds to De Winter and 1.22 to the peloton.

De Winter was caught by the peloton as the leaders started on the final ten kilometres with a lead of 1.22.

Lemoine and Duchesne battled on, nursing a 15 second lead going into the last two kilometres.

Duhesne was caught but Lemoine carried on under the flam as Philippe Gilbert attacked on the the Citadelle de Namur.

The BMC rider got passed Lemoine and got away to take the win ahead of Etixx Quick Step's Pieter Serry and Topsport's Thomas Sprengers, followed by Katusha's Sergey Lagutin and FDJ's Arthur Vichot.

Niki Terpstra of Etixx Quick Step continues to lead the race.
