Gallopin Wins Etoile de Bessèges Stage Four

Tony Gallopin of Lotto Soudal has won the fourth stage of the 45th Etoile de Bessèges.

The fourth stage was a 153.6km stage from L'Ardoise to Laudun and saw Barbier, Gérard, Meurisse, Tronet, Van Melsen,Vaubourzeix and Tommy Voeckler of Europcar, break before Gaëtan Pons joined them.

A lead of three minutes was stripped away and was down to 1.58 when the breakaway started on four 15.5km finishing laps.

Pons and Meurisses were brought back by the peloton and on the Mur de Laudun with a lap to go, the other five apart from Voeckler were caught.

The Europcar rider battled on but he too was brought to heel and on the uphill finish on the Mur de Laudun, Tony Gallopin of Lotto Soudal attacked and he took a victory in 3.43.51 beating Christophe Laporte of Cofidis and race leader Edward Theuns of Topsport Vlanderen who leads Kris Boeckmans by seven seconds going into the final 12km time trial in Alès.
