Farrar Wins US Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 5

Garmin's Tyler Farrar won the US Pro Cycling Challenge fifth stage today.

Seven riders got clear on this 189.7km stage from Breckenridge to  Colorado Springs.

They were 1.55 ahead with 27 miles to go. Vincenzo Nibali decided to attack with two others in Zaugg and Firsanov and they were fifteen seconds ahead of the peloton which had swallowed up the other four escapers.

There was three final laps of Colorado Springs for the riders to negotiate with 7.2 miles to go, as the rain started to fall.

This was heading for a bunch sprint with United Healthcarte and BMC on the front. 

However, Garmin's Tyler Farrar, who escaped from being boxed in, took the win in a time of 3.58.57. Taylor Phinney was second wiith Bazzana third.
