Caleb Ewen of Orica Green Edge has won the second stage of the Jayco Sun Herald Tour in Australia.

Stage Two was a 117.9km stage from Bendigo to Nagambie and being mainly flattish was seen as one for the sprinters to get their teeth into.

The first sprint came very early and saw points for British rider Josh Edmondson who was third behind Craig Evers of Data Symantec and Joel Strachan of Navitas.

The peloton was together at the twenty kilometres gone mark but shortly after, three riders tried an escape only to be reeled in, a couple of kilometres later.

Tyler Farrar of MTN Qhubeka, British rider Michael Cuming of JLT Condor and Will Clarke were the next to attack aftert forty four kilometres and they were able to distance themselves from the peloton which had Cameron Meyer of Orica Green Edge as its race leader.

Farrar took the twelve points on offer for the KOM Climb after 48.5kms and the trio were able to extend their lead to 2.44 at half-stage distance.

Onto the tree lined C244 which goes all the way to Nagambie from Heathcote and the peloton upped their speed to 42kmh to reduce the trio's gap to 2,01.

Cuming was dropped by Farrar and Clarke with a lead of 1.24 for the final twenty five kilometres.

Through Graystown and that lead was down to 1.16 thanks to UnitedHealthCare taking a big turn on the front of the peloton.

The gap started to drop below the minute mark and was down to twenty seconds going with seven kilometres left.

Over the Goulbourn river and Farrar and Clarke were still clear but on the left turn into High Street, the pair were caught and the sprint was on and in that sprint, which produced a crash, in front of a big crowd which included lots of school children - Caleb Ewen took the victory in 2.38.51 ahead of Steel Van Hoff of the Australian National team, Sam Witmitz of Team Budget Forklifts John Murphy of UnitedHealthCare and Massimo Graziato of African Wildlife Safaris.

Cameron Meyer keeps his leaders jersey.
