Giant Shimano's German sprinter John Degenkolb made it two wins out of two when he won the second stage of the Tour Méditerranéen Cycliste Professionnel.

The riders took on a 171km stage from Cadolive to Rousset and Zordan and Siskevicius were the first to attack. But after fifteen kilometres, they were caught and Jussi Veikkanen of FDJ and Jarlinson Pantano of the Colombia team took over, steadily building a lead of 6.40 after 44kms.

Their lead went out to 8.10 before the peloton slowly started to claw them back and into the final thirty kilometres, the duo were 1.50 ahead.

Jussi Veikkanen and Jarlinson Pantano were caught on the second climb of the day with 19kms remaining by a group containing the race leader John Degenkolb of Giant Shimano.

Duarte and Gautier launched an attack but were swiftly caught by Degenkolb's group.

More attacks followed as the teams including Team Raleigh tried to get their riders into position for the final twelve kilometres.

Romain Sicard of Europcar did make a successful raid and got six seconds clear of the first group with a second some thirty seconds back with ten to go.

Yury Trofimov of Katusha caught up with Sicard but, with eight kilometres remaining, both were caught and this set up with a bunch sprint which John Degenkolb of Giant Shimano won for the second day in a row beat Yannick Martinez, Fonseca Colbrelli, Selvaggi, M Kreder,  Gautier, Roux, Brutt and Cherel.
