De Maar Wins Tour Of Norway Stage Two

Marc De Maar of UnitedHealthcare has won the second stage of the Tour of Norway.

Norwegian Alexander Kristoff of Katusha was in the leaders yellow jersey going into this 193.9km stage from Drøbak to Sarpsborg.

Preben Van Hecke of Topsport, Adrian Kurek, Johan Van Zyl, Trond Trondsen, Sørtveit and  Jensen have got into an early break and had a lead of four minutes which was down to 3'30 with 83kms gone.

With forty five kilometres to go on a sunny evening, the six riders were 1.02 clear.

Five kilometres later and the escapers were in sight and then caught by a group of around seventy riders.

After the second intermediate sprint which Tom Van Asbroeck took,  Paterski and De Maar got clear, taking a small leader over eleven chasers in Vanmarcke, Madrazo, Fumeaux, Lietaer, Remme, Borresen, Karlsson, Jansen, Ghyselinck & Robinson Bugge with 28kms to go.

It was a lead that saw Paterski of CCC Polsat and De Maar still in front with a forty four second lead on the chasers going into the final five kilometres.

Into the final kilometre and the chasers went after De Maar who was not to be denied and he took the win in 4.38.38, outsprinting Maciej Paterski. Ten seconds later, Kristoff won the sprint for third ahead of Saramotins, Holst Enger, Kump, Bystrom, Hinault, Van Asbroeck and Nordhaug.

The victory give Marc De Maar the race lead going into the third stage.
