De Gendt Wins Seventh Stage Of The Tour De Suisse

Belgium's Thomas De Gendt won the seventh stage Of The Tour De Suisse today.

The stage today saw an uphill finish in the Austrian town of Serfaus after its start in the Liechtenstein capital of Vaduz.

On this 222.8km stage which also went back into Switzerland, seventeen riders escaped after an initial move 33 kms in had been dealt with.

Jan Bakelandts was the best placed rider in the escapees which included Leopard Trek's Andy Schleck who was wracking up King Of The Mountains at the Fluepass as well as sprint points and BMC's George Hincapie (pictured below).

They were six minutes ahead of race leader Damiano Cunego thanks to Belgium's Thomas De Gendt upping the pace and breaking away with 25kms to go.

Andy Schleck (pictured below) decided to try and get to the front.

However, De Gendt meant business at the front and roder to victory in a time of 5hr 38 mins and 42 seconds. Andy Schleck was second some 35 seconds back.

Tomorrow's stage is from Tübach to Schaffhausen and is 167.3kms long
