Dani Diaz Wins Tour De San Luis Second Stage

Dani Diaz of the Funvic Brazil Invest team has won the second stage of the Tour De San Luis in Argentina.

Stage two with Fernando Gaviria of the Colombia-Coldeportes team in the leaders jersey after sprinting past Mark Cavendish for victory in Villa Mercedes, was a 185.3km stage from La Punta to Mirador de Potrero which has a final climb of almost five kilometres with a 6,7% average gradient.

Five riders in Carlos Quintero of the Colombian team, Lucas Haedo (Jamis), Seb Tolosa (Buenoes Aires), Romain Guillemois of Europcar and Maurico Muller of Team San Juan formed the day's break and were 8.25 clear with 127.3kms to go.

Mauricio Muller took the sprint after 38.1kms ahead of Tolosa and Haedo and the five riders carried on out in front with a lead of 2.45 with 45kms remaining.

Tolosa took the second sprint and then the KOM climb before job done, he returned back towards the peloton.

As Quintero, Haedo, Guillemois and Muller started the final climb at Mirador del Potrero, their lead was down to 1.30.

They were caught by the Movistar team which had Naira Quintana and Igor Anton doing the work.

However, no-one was marking Daniel Diaz who stormed away to win in 4.33.26,x seconds ahead of Rodolofo Torres and twenty four seconds ahead of Kleber Da Silva. Fourth was Sepulveda followed by Moreno, Diniz, Nairo Quintana, Godoy and Jaramillo.

Diaz takes over as the leader of the race.
