HTC Highroad's John Dagenkolb won stage two of the Criterium Dauphine.

On this 179km stage from Voiron to Lyon,  Brice Feillu (Leopard Trek), Jurgen Van De Walle (Omega Pharma-Lotto) and Martin Tjallingii (Rabobank were the early escapees and got four minutes clear.

By the time the race went into Lyon, every one was back together. With 1.4km to go, some of the leaders went the wrong way around a traffic island and this allowed others included Thomas Voeckler and HTC Highroad's young German John Dagenkolb to battle it out in a sprint with saw Dagenkolb first over the line in a time of 4hr 40 mins ahead of Dumoulin with Paul Martens (Rabobank) third in front of Joaquim Rodriguez and Thomas Voeckler.

Nicolas Roche came home in 8th place.

"I'm having a super start to my career with so many wins, but this victory is very special because it's my first in a World Tour category race," Degenkolb said to the HTC Highroad Press office afterwards.

"It was the ideal stage for me, the day before we'd already checked out the finish and ridden up here so we knew what was coming and I knew where I had to be positioned to go for the win."

Tomorrow's stage is a 42.5km time trial around Grenoble whjich should suit Bradley Wiggins who is third in the overall classification eleven seconds behind Vinokourov.
