Costa Wins The Tour De France Stage Sixteen

 Rui Costa won the sixteenth stage of the 100th Tour De France.

Back after a rest day, stage sixteen was from Vaison-La-Romaine to Gap and 168kms long.

Thirty one riders formed the lead group early on before Ryder Hesjedal took the second category climb on the Cote de la Montagne de Bhye.

After twenty nine kilometres only Kloden and Hansen remained out front as the rest were swept up by the peloton led by race leader Chris Froome.

Hansen (LTB), Gilbert, Quinziato (BMC), Gallopin (RTL), Gautier, Voeckler (EUC), Kadri, Riblon (ALM) (Roche (TST), Trofimov, Astarloza, Costa, Coppel, Navarro, Mori, Navardauskas, Albasini, Meyer, Dumoulin, De Gendt. Hoogerland, Marino and Velits took over at the front and soon had a six minute lead.before the second category climb on the col de Macuegne saw Jonnie Hoogerland take the five points on offer.

They established a gap of eleven minutes before Rui Costa went away with twenty kilometres remaining and took the Col de Manse climb.

He carried on and won in a time of 3:52:45, ahead of Christophe Riblon and Arnold Jeannesson 

Chris Froome and Porte worked well but came in with a group containing Mollema, Quintana and Contador. He continues to lead by 4.14.
