Chavanel Wins Paris-Nice Stage 6

Omega Pharma Quick Step's Sylvain Chavanel won the sixth stage of the Paris-Nice race today.

Today took the race to the French coastal resort of Nice after starting in Manosque, some 220kms away. 

Egor Silin (Astana), Eduard Vorganov (Katusha), Simon Clarke (Orica-GreenEdge), Gatis Smukulis (Katusha), Brent Bookwalter (BMC), Arnold Jeannesson (FDJ), Julien El Fares (Sojasun), Borut Bozic (Astana), Jerome Pineau (Omega Pharma-Quick Step), Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) and polka-dot jersey holder Johann Tschopp (IAM Cycling) got away in the break of the day which initially started on the Cote du Bois de Rousset climb after 6.5kms.

Tschopp took the next three climbs and then took the Category One  Col du Ferrier to ensure he won the King Of The Mountains jersey.

Sky and BMC chased down the escapers and with 41kms to go, their day at the front was over and a sixty rider group controlled the race on a sunny but cloudy day.

The race came down to a sprint and Omega Pharma Quick Step's Sylvain Chavanel took the win in a time of 5.14.23 ahead of Phillipe Gilbert and Joaquin Rojas whilst Richie Porte finished safely in the pack to ensure that he will be in yellow for tomorrow's final time triai.
