Sylvain Chavanel of IAM Cycling won the third stage of the Four Days Of Dunkirk.

A 197km third stage from Fruges to Calais saw Koretzky, Bulgac, Houle, Kadri, Pichot, Fouchard, Morkov, Matzka, Dassonville and El Fares in the day's main break.

With fifty two kilometres remaining, their lead was down to 3.06 and down to a minute, twenty kilometres later.

FDJ riding for racing leader Arnaud Demare kept the pressure on and riders started to be shelled by the break away group. Only Koretzky, Bulgac, Kadri & Matzka were left with sixteen kilometres remaining and they were now only thirteen seconds clear.

They were soon brought back and Sylvain Chavanel and Michael Valgren Andersen went up the road. No-one was able to catch them and Chavanel outsprinted Andersen to win in 4.58.15 with Dumoulin third twelve seconds back in a group which contained Morkov, Delfosse, Gerard and the race leader Arnaud Demare who keeps his lead in the race by two seconds from Chavanel and five ahead of Valgren Andersen.

Speaking to Eurosport, Chavanel said about his victory: "It was very tough but great day for cycling. It was hard but I love it.

"I was strongest in the sprint and I was happy with it. I came to Dunkirk looking for a win and now I have got it so I will try to keep it until Sunday."
