Britain Name Long List For World Championships

British Cycling have announced the long list for the Great Britain squad for the World Championships in Toscana, Italy from September 22nd to September 29th.

Former World Champion Mark Cavendish has been named along with former Tour De France winners Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins for the Men’s elite road race which takes place in Florence. 

Britain, thanks to its strong performances in races can field a team of eight in the Men’s elite road race. 

Sir David Brailsford and performance director Shane Sutton will select eight riders from the following: Mark Cavendish, Steve Cummings, Alex Dowsett, Josh Edmondson, Andy Fenn, Chris Froome, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard, Geraint Thomas, Jon Tiernan Locke and Sir Bradley Wiggins, who has been named along side Alex Dowsett in the Men’s elite time trial.

Meanwhile, the six women riders who will compete in Great Britain colours for the Women’s elite road race jave been named as Lizzie Armitstead, Katie Colclough, Nikki Harris, Lucy Garner, Sharon Laws and Emma Pooley, who will also compete in the Women’s elite time trial

Britain also has six places in the U23 men’s road race and Jon Dibben,
Owain Doull, Tom Moses, Joe Perrett, Alex Peters, Alistair Slater along with Adam Yates and Simon Yates who posted good results in the Tour De L'avenir also included. Joe Perrett will compete in U23 men’s time trial.

Scott Davies, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Matt Gibson and James Knox have been named in the team for the Junior Mens Road Race, with Gibson riding the Junior men’s time trial.

Anna Christian and Bethany Hayward will compete in the Junior women’s road race.
