Boasson- Hagan Wins Tirreno-Adriactico Third Stage

Edvald Boasson-Hagan won the third stage of the Tirreno-Adriactico this afternoon.

Stage three was 178kms long and from yesterday's finish at Indicatore to  Terni.

Filippo Savini was one of the escapers who had got away from a Team Sky led peloton which included Mark Cavendish and Cadel Evans.

With 36kms, he was 1:13 ahead, as the riders struggled with the crosswinds in Umbria.

He was caught with 27kms to go. With no team controlling the peloton, this was going to be anybody's sprint. Mark Cavendish in the points jersey was boxed in and it his fellow Team Sky rider Edvald Boasson-Hagen who won ahead of Andre Greipel in a time of 4:45.31 with an average speed of 37.4kmph.

Peter Sagan was third with Tyler Farrar fourth and Manuel Belletti in fifth.

Race leader Matt Goss was sixth and keeps his leaders Blue jersey.
