Next 2 Tone plaque to be unveiled at opening of major exhibition

The next 2-Tone@30 plaque will be unveiled at 6.00pm on October 2nd by Specials legend Horace Panter at Coventry University, University Square. It was here Horace gained his art degree when the University was known as The Lanchester Polytechnic, or simply 'The Lanch.' Horace first met a certain Jerry Dammers here, a meeting that would lead to the Specials becoming a band. The hit song "Rat Race" was conceived at the Lanch by Roddy Byers and the promotion video for the track was filmed in the main hall. Coventry University is number one on the 2-Tone trail, and its importance in Coventry musical history is immense, and some of this will be on display at the University on the night. So it's pertinent that this plaque will precede More than Two Tones Coventry music Exhibition.

After the ceremony the 'Invite Only' opening gala of the exciting More than Two Tones music exhibition begins at 6.30pm. Including a one-off reunion gig by a chart-making Coventry band of the 80's.

More than Two Tones began as an idea from Coventry Music Historian and Coventry Ambassador Pete Chambers. "The idea" said Pete. "Is to say, look we are rightly proud of being home to the influential 2 Tone movement, but musically Coventry is much more than just that, those who may doubt that are in for a surprise here. The exhibition team led by Senior Curator at The Herbert Martin Roberts have all worked so hard on this, and I think we will have a successful exhibition on our hands and one that will define Coventry as a city of music once and for all". More than Two Tones runs from 3rd of October until the New Year.
