Coconut Shy at Market
Don't be shy, because Coventry Market has a lovely bunch of coconuts. Yes on Saturday 5th September you can roll on up and knock a nut off and try and win a prize at the brand new coconut shy at Coventry's Retail Market. Forget "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch" because here at the market it's absolutely free! So now's the time to get your throwing arm in gear, children and adults all welcome to join in the fun.
All you need is your ticket to play, and they are available on any stall, free with any purchase. Market Manager Brian Sexton said, "The Coconut Shy is all about fun for shoppers in the Market, where else would you get the chance to let lose a bit of steam, and still stand a chance of winning something into the bargain".
The first ball thrown on the coconut shy was by Coventry-born singer and actress Hazel O'Connor. The star famous for the film Breaking Glass has just had a star on the Coventry Walk of Fame dedicated to her. So this is what one Coventry icon, said about another, "I love to spend time in Cov Market, just browsing and finding so much diversity and the coconut shy is a great element of fun, a must for all!"
If that wasn't enough, on Saturday 5th September, Doctor Who's greatest adversary The Daleks (well one of them) will be patrolling the market floor, in the search for its deadliest foe, the coconut. During its mission it will be conducting a series of recognisance photos with market shoppers. So it's your chance to have your photograph taken with a Dalek (that's if you DARE of course). When asked recently for a quote the Dalek replied, "All coconuts will be exterminated, they are the enemy of the Daleks, they must be destroyed, exterminate, exterminate"
