Stand by for four more famous names to be inducted into The CMWOF. Already Bob Brolly MBE , Lynval Golding, Steve ’Cardboard’ Eaton, Vince Martin Holliday, Panjabi MC, Neol Davies, Hazel O’Connor, Jerry Dammers, Delia Derbyshire, Ray King, Pete Chambers, Pauline Black, Neville Staple, Frank Ifield,Taz Singh, Trevor Evans, Roger Lomas, Vince Hill and Steve & Heather Taylor, Roddy Byers, Charley Anderson, John Bradbury and Lieutenant Pigeon have all been proudly inducted, and have their plaques at the 2-Tone Village, here’s a biography for the next four inductees!

Steve Edgson (Sponsored by The Bus Stop Cafe) Steve left this Earth in 2008, yet musically he is still very much here, with his trademark glasses, bowtie and clarinet of course. Steve was musically brilliant as a member of bands like Analog, Ens, The Reluctant Stereotypes, The Pink Umbrellas, The Giraffes and The Two Giraffes. It is however for playing the clarinet he will always be remembered, after all there are not many who could take such a classical instrument and make it totally Rock N Roll. He may be gone, but there’s a Steve Edgson hole in the Cov music scene now.

Horace Panter (Sponsored by Adrian & Carole Quinney) Sir Horace Gentleman was and is a supreme bass player, whatever happens to The Specials on stage its Horace and Brad that keep the rhythm powering along.Despite two number ones with the Specials and a top 30 with General Public in The USA, he would probably rather talk about his ‘local’ band Blues To Go and and of course hissuccessful career as an artist than his glowing days as ska’s ultimate bassman. He may not be a real Sir, he may not even be a real Horace, but he certainly is a real Gentleman and although he will hate me saying it, he’s also a legend to many people.

The Primitives (Sponsored by The Noise Works ) The 80’s were a fine decade for Coventry, a decade that began with the cult of 2-Tone and Hazel O’Connor fading from black and white into the multi-tone of King and then towards the back-end of the decade came these popsters The Primitives. Largely ignored in their own city, the band released a steam of infectious pop anthems like ‘Thru The Flowers’,‘Out of Reach and of course the hugely popular ‘Crash’. The latter put the band on the world stage, and on every pop magazine cover around. No wonder Smiths legend Morrissey was seen wearing a Prims’ T shirt and happy to cite the band as a favourite and that’s probably why the band are still rocking today.

Paul Sampson (Sponsored by Freeman Dance) For Paul Sampson read multi-talented, he’s a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer, and each one of these elements all come easy to a man who has put his spark of originality into bands like Bung, Ens, The Reluctant Stereotypes and The Pink Umbrellas as a guitarist/singer/songwriter. In the producers role however he has stacked up a client-base that includes The Primitives, Catatonia, Neutrinos, Birdland, See See Rider and David McAlmont. For over 30 years music, (and much of this Coventry based), has been his job his career path and more importantly his passion.

The ceremony is open to the public, and takes place at the 2-Tone Village, Ball Hill Coventry, CV2 4ED on Friday 17th August at 4.00pm.
