The Colombia High Road rider, who was pipped into second place in the fourth stage, was first to the line in today's 169km stage which started and finished in San Benedetto del Tronto.
For Cavendish, it was his fifth stage win of the new season having won twice in Qatar and twice in the Tour Of California.

The General Classification was won by Italian Michele Scarponi from the Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli team.
