Jerome Murdock clipped the bar from twenty yards in the eighth minute and just over seventy seconds later, was fouled for a free kick. Callum Woodward took the kick and curled it into the net from twenty yards to delight the travelling support and put Sphinx ahead.

Declan Doherty showed some good touches in the first half and in the 21st minute, he flicked the ball over a defender and got the ball on his right before volleying just over from 25 yards out.

Dave Allen had had little to do but in the 33rd minute, he was picking the ball out of the net when Scott Easterlow, some sixteen yards out, sidefooted home a cross from Michael Osbourne.

Sphinx had the better of the play but it was not until the 68th minute that they re-took the lead thanks to Jerome Murdock racing on to a through ball and beating the advancing keeper from fourteen yards.

Andrew Woodhall had a fine game in midfield for Sphinx and it was the midfield quartet which included substitute Robbie Stevenson that kept pushing for more goals.

In the 86th minute, the experience defender Joao Jardim in his own half launched a ball forwards. Jerome Murdock raced onto it and slipped the ball past Luke Malin in the Racers goal.
