COVENTRY SPHINX 4-1 STUDLEY BY KEV MONKS

Coventry Sphinx were back to winning ways with a workmanlike performance against Studley at Sphinx Drive tonight.

Danny McSheffey included new signing Raman Manak, who had tasted life in America with UCLA as well as Stafford Rangers and Bedworth United.

With Josh Ruff in midfield, the duo put in a fine performance along with Jerome Murdock who set up two early chances for Kelvin Phillips.

It was Phillips who was involved in the 27th minute when he went to meet a powerful header from Ruff but was taken down by inside the area in the opinion of the referee Mr Rolfe. Kelvin Phillips got up to take the kick and fired Sphinx ahead.

Two minutes later, Sphinx added a second when Mr Rolfe played an advantage after Terry Ward had been impeded and a superb run from Covsupport News Service Man Of The Match Josh Ruff saw him avoid a couple of markers before beating the keeper with a low drive.

Studley pulled one back in the 34th minute when Joe Adams scored from from a penalty but Sphinx stuck to their guns.

A 38th minute shot from Manak crashed against the cross bar before the midfielder made a darting run a minute later to win a corner.

Eight minutes into the second half and Sphinx hit their third goal of an entertaining match played in a good spirit when Arron Donaldson finished well from good work from Jamie McAteer who had got round the back of the defence on the left.

On the hour mark, Jerome Murdock got his reward for a good performance by heading in a Ruff free kick.

By now, it was game over but Manak was very unlucky not to have crowned his debut with a goal when his 61st minute right-footed volley from 25 yards hit the far post and nine minutes later, Terry Ward also struck a post.

Manak was one of three substitutes used by Danny McSheffrey who was pleased with the victory ahead of his side's home FA Cup tie with Stafford Rangers on Saturday.
