Coventry City Reserves won their first "home" game of the season with a 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town.

Steve Ogrizovic made a late change and replaced Arjan De Zeeuw with Jermaine Grandison at the back. Michael Hughes,Robert Page and Ellery Cairo also returned after injury.

Huddersfield were one place above City in the table going into the game and manager John Dungworth named a team that included the experienced Jon Worthington and Andy Booth was a sub not used when the sides met in Ibiza in July 2005.

In the third minute,Kevin Kyle played a great ball to the unmarked Kevin Thornton. The midfielder raced for about twenty yards before hitting a shot which hit the bar and bounced down before being grabbed by Alex Smithiles in the Huddersfield goal.

The England U17's keeper was certainly the busier in the opening exchanges, making two good catches from corners.

In the 11th minute,Kyle missed a good chance when he headed a Cairo cross over from six yards.

Six minutes later,City keeper Danny Ireland was required to make his first save when he got to stop the advancing Daniel Racchi.

Seconds later,he denied Andy Booth by parrying the first effort and got a touch to the second.

On the 20 minute mark, City took the lead through Kevin Kyle who got down the left and drilled the ball low into the bottom corner.

City's defence tactic of trying to play offside was leading to problems and it is was not for David McNamee making a couple of superb tackles, then Booth might have been on the scoresheet.

Michael Hughes was impressive in midfield doing plenty of running from box to box.

Also sharp was Thornton who did well to play in Simmonds for a shot which was saved as was a Thornton run and shot just before the break.

In the 53rd minute, City doubled their advantage. The hard working Liam Francis made a great run down the left and the ball to deep to Cairo at the far post.

The header down fell neatly for Donovan Simmonds to drive into the bottom corner from sixteen yards.

Six minutes later and it was 3-0 when Kevin Kyle got in a great position to side foot home after Simmonds pushed forward after an initial ball from David McNamee.

Huddersfield flashed a few balls across the goal and with six minutes left,Booth dispossessed Ireland and turned to strike a shot against the post with the rebound falling straight into the arms of Danny Ireland who kept his first clean sheet of the season.

City defend their Birmingham Senior Cup title next Tuesday at Solihull. The game is subject to Solihull not drawing with Kettering in an FA Trophy game on Saturday.
