Former old boys of St Johns School formed a team called Blackpool St Johns in 1887. They kept this for twelve years before merging with South Shore to form Blackpool FC, having moved into their current home at Bloomfield Road.
Their first Football League game was a 3-1 defeat at Lincoln in 1896.

Blackpool's glory years were in the 1950's, finishing as runners up in Division One and winning the FA Cup Final in 1953 after losing the final in 1951 and 1948.
Blackpool were promoted to the Championship after beating Yeovil in the Play-Off Final last season.

Kick off is at 7.45pm. To mark Freshers Week at Cov's two universities, the game has been declared Students Day and there are cheaper tickets for both exisiting and new students, otherwise tickets are at normal prices. To avoid paying extra get your tickets before 4.45pm on Tuesday.

THE LAST TIME
This will be the 20th meeting of the two sides. Coventry have won on six occasions with one draw. Blackpool's last trip to Coventry brought a 3-1 defeat in the second leg of a League Cup tie on October 1st 1997. The last league game was at Highfield Road on February 13th 1971 and saw a 2-0 win for City.

By car: Leave the M6 at junction 3. Take the A444 towards the City centre and at the first island go left and you will
see the Ricoh Arena on your right.

By rail: For all train information call National Rail Enquiries on: 08457 48 49 50, but be warned Coventry station is a £10+ taxi ride away. Take the 27 bus from the train station get off at Pool Meadow bus station and catch
the 4 or 5 service. Or go out of doors and over the road by Sainsburys and get the 20, getting off the by Tescos.

Parking: Car parking is extremely restricted around the ground.

AWAY SUPPORTERS PARKING
Car parking around the Ricoh Arena is strictly limited.
However, there is a designated away supporters car park, situated around five minutes walk away from the ground. The car park is secure and cost is £5 - but spaces are limited to just 100.

Directions: M6 to junction 3. Take 3rd exit if coming from north or 1st exit if travelling from the south. At the 2nd roundabout, take the 2nd exit, under the railway bridge, through the first set of traffic lights, and pass the pedestrian lights. At the next set of lights, turn right into Blackburn Road and the car park is at the top of the road.

SAT NAV
Some car satellite navigation systems have not been updated to show Coventry City FC as playing at the Ricoh Arena. Those visiting the ground for the first time are advised to enter "Phoenix Way" and the post code "CV6 6GE" instead.

Isaac Osbourne could be brought back but it looks like Iain Dowie will field the same team which played against Charlton.

Tim Flowers said: "It is a massive game for us because with Wolves away on Saturday we want to be back in that top six area if we can going into the international break," said Iain Dowie's right-hand man who is determined to see things tightened up in defence.

"A victory against Blackpool would probably do that for us and that's where we want to be - with the big hitters."
