Coventry City U18's were back to winning ways with an excellent 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town.
Both sides lost last week but went looking for a win with McDermid in the Town goal having to save from George Thomas in the third minute.
With Steve Ogrizovic and Darren Murray watching on, Jason Farndon's side, who have former Nuneaton Town manager Brian Reid as a coach, took the lead in the tenth minute when Deven Kelly Evans raced to head home a cross.
The referee denied City a penalty in the seventeenth minute when Thomas went sprawling. The assistant flagged for a penalty but his flag waving was over-ruled.
Kyle Spence had a shot pushed round for a corner and another effort saved in the 23rd minute and a third saved just before the half hour mark.
At the back for City, Cian Harries was having a fine game, making some great tackles and this allowed Jordan Shipley to start a move in the 36th minute and play one-two before lashing the ball into the net.
Kyle Spence curled wide as City playing some entertaining football continued to attack with Ben Stevenson winning a 43rd minute corner which was headed away.
Ipswich pulled a goal back three minutes into the second half when a free kick was toe poked home from close range by substitute Cenual Ramadan.
City went up the other end and forced the visiting keeper into two cracking saves, the second from a Spence pile driver from the edge of the area.
Spence finally got the goal that his performance merited when George Thomas slipped the ball through and Spence finished neatly into the bottom corner in the 56th minute.
Ipswich twice went close before the Sky Blues replaced Kyle Spence with nine minutes to go.
Monty Patterson struck a post with a late free kick. However, with Callum Maycock, Luke Bromley, Stevenson, Barnett and the rest of the City team all working well, City were able to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
