Coventry City are through to the FA Youth Cup Third Round after a 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

City went into the game fielding a strong side on a wet night at Nuneaton Town.

Bas Sambou was first to have a go on goal getting in a third minute header.

Crewe had a couple of half hit shots and had a corner in the 22nd minute which was cleared.

The ball went up to Bas Sambou. Keiron Harrison in the Crewe goal came out and lost the ball and Sambou stroked the ball into the empty net.

Less than a minute later and Sambou broke again and slipped the ball past Harrison into the net.

With Jacob Whitmore able to get forward, Jordan Shipley rifled a 35th minute shot for a corner.

Dan Smiith picked up a booking, the lively City had Sambou firing in shots.

Crewe did have Charlie Kirk volley at Corey Addai before the half ended with City two goals to the good.

Bas Sambou had the first shot of the second half for a City team which was keeping a high line and the striker should have completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute but his close range effort deflected for a corner.

Higham volleyed against the bar six minutes later in a game which was very open.

Crewe fired over following a 76th minute corner and Dan Smith had two runs on goal before he was replaced.

Crewe kept battling to the end but it was City who will face Stoke City at Nuneaton Town in Round Three.
