Warwicks Beat Worcester Again

Warwickshire County Cricket Club won their second successive pre-season friendly against Worcestershire with a nine wicket win.

This game which allowed supporters into Edgbaston for free, was a fifty overs a side affair played under Friends Provident Trophy regulations.

Worcestershire were put into bat and lost an early wicket when Westwood caught Stephen Davies off the bowling of Lee Daggert for four.

Tim Groenewald took the wicket of Mooen Ali before Boyd Rankine chipped in with a couple of wickets to leave Worcestershire on 84-4. Ant Botha grabbed three wickets with another for Groenewald and Worcestershire were all out for 217 with Ben Smith 68 not out.

Warwicks went straight on the attack, Neil Carter hit three sixes in an innings of 47 and that was the only wicket to fall.

Carter's opening partner Darren Maddy fired a century off only 72 balls and went onto finish on 118 not out with Ian Westwood on 44 ias Warwicks reached the total in only 22.4 overs.

Warwicks finish their pre-season with a two day game at Oxford Uni Cricket Centre of Excellence tomorrow before facing Worcestershire in their opening County Championship game next week.
