Bolehall Swifts 3-4 Coventry Sphinx By Kev Monks

Coventry Sphinx hit four goals for the third time in a week and then had to hold on to take a 4-3 win at Bolehall Swifts.

Paul Charnley's side were ahead after 20 minutes through Wayne Pulford who raced on a through ball and kept his cool to slot the ball past the Swifts keeper.

Fifteen minutes later, a superb Robbie Stevenson free kick flew into the net and in the 40th minute,Stevenson was picked out by a mazy run from Mark Owen and the midfielder made no mistake from six yards.

Coventry Sphinx took the lead in the 20th minute when Wayne Pulford raced onto a through and cooly stroked the ball under the keeper.

On the stroke of half-time, a good bit of finishing from Pulford gave the Midland Combination Premier Division Champions a fourth goal.

The Sphinx supporters in the crowd thought this was game over but Swifts boss Rob Masefield had other ideas.

With Danny McSheffrey and Adam Knibbs replaced at the break, Sphinx lost heir bite in midfield and coolness in defence.

Paul Hathaway sent a looping header into the net two minutes after the restart with Damien Jarrett, who should have had four goals in the game, scoring in the 66th minute.

Three minutes later,Swifts were down to ten men when Richard Deavall was dismissed for a second yellow card offence by Bedworth based referee Craig Gee, but the Tamworth based side kept going and netted a third through Ben Roberts with six minutes left.

This set up a grandstand finish but Sphinx kept their nerve and defended well with Man Of The Match Dave Drennan battling away and makeshift defender Adie Fisher in control to ensure that Sphinx ended their season with a victory.
