COVENTRY SPHINX RESERVES 1-4 WERNLEY ATHLETIC BY KEV MONKS

Coventry Sphinx went down in the final of the Jack Mould Trophy to a more experienced Wernley Athletic side at Coleshill Town FC.

Wernley playing in West Brom's kit took the lead in the fifth minute when the Sphinx defence stopped allowing Gareth Day to bundle home from four yards.

Sphnx boss Lee Knibbs was forced into an early change when Robert Scott pulled a hamstring chasing a ball missed by the walkabout keeper.

Wernley should have been four goals ahead up but were made to pay for their missed chances in the 27th minute when Rich Elliott drove home from thirty yards.

The Midland Combination Division Two Champions went back in front two minutes into the second half when a foul was not given and Gareth Day headed in.

Four minutes later, it was three when keeper Joe Connor made a hash of a backpass and the ball trickled in to the net.

Two minutes from time, Sean Williams wrapped up a fine win for an experienced Wernley side with a long ranger.
