In Krsko, Slovenia the opening round of the 2008 Speedway Grand Prix series took place amid very inclement weather that served to thwart the efforts of out and out racers such as Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls.

With gating even more key than usual, as well as having the inside gates off Red and Blue, Bees skipper Chris Harris started well with a second place in his first outing. Sadly in each of his next 4 races he could only manage third place givign a points total on the night of 6, 2 short of the target 8 points that tonight ensured a semi-final berth.

Scott ran in 3 third places in his first 3 rides, and stepped up a gear with 2 seconds in his last 2 heats, just falling short of the semi-finals. With the wet track only having one real racing line on the inside he just couldn't get past Swede Fredrik Lindgren in his final outing of the night.

Bees asset Andreas Jonsson headed the points scorers in the qualifying stages with 11 points and raced to a second place finish in his semi-final to continue in the GP. However off the unfavoured gate 3 (white) in the final he anticipated the start a touch too early and touched the tapes rwhich results in an exclusion.

The final was therefore contested between Pole Tomasz Gollob, reigning world champion Dane Nicki Pedersen and fellow Dane Hans Andersen.

With Gollob off the inside gate 1 (red) he made a great start to head the riders int he final, and despite Pedersen passing Andersen and putting Gollob under some pressure the Pole held his nerve to take the GP win.

The next round is in Poland on Saturday 10th May.
