Former City Girl Plays For England In World Cup

Former Coventry City Girls player Karen Carney played for seventy two minutes for England Women in their opening game in the FIFA Women's World Cup against Mexico in Germany.

The former City youngster who now plays her football with WSL side Birmingham City started the match which saw Fara Williams put England ahead in 21st minute.

it was a lead that Hope Powell's side could not hold and O'Campo levelled the game in the 33rd minute.

Former Coventry City Ladies defender Laura Bassett was an unusued substitute in the game which finished in a 1-1 draw.

England's next game is against New Zealand who drew 1-1 with Japan on Friday.
