Five Goal Coventry Blaze Beat The Steelers

Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team tonight, beat Sheffield Steelers 5-1 in a Challenge Cup match at the Sky Dome.

Last night, Coventry hit nine goals against Dundee Stars but tonight they could not find the net in the opening period and all they succeded in doing was knocking up eight minutes of penalties caused by two incidents of hooking for Brad Zanon and Arron Nell followed by two minutes for roughing by Jeff Smith and two for holding by Brian Lee.



A goal did arrive on 29.06 but it went to the visitors who scored on the power play through Ben Simon, assisted by Jeff Legue.

The Blaze managed to kill a 5 v 3 penalty on 35 minutes and they levelled on 38 minutes through Owen Fussey, whose goal was assisted by Dan Carlson and Mat Soderstrom.

Into the third and Coventry took the lead on 43.30 with a powerplay goal from Sean Selsmer, assisted by Brian Lee and Luke Fulghum.

A minute and twenty seconds later, Selsmer turned provider in setting up Jon Weaver to fire the Blaze further in front.

On 50.59, a fourth goal arrived courtesy of Dan Carlson, finding the net, assisted by Luke Fulghum and Owen Fussey.

With one minute and twenty six seconds of the match remaining, Arron Nell, assisted by Jeff Smith and Brad Zanon, scored a fifth to wrap up a good weekend's work for Coventry Blaze.

On Wednesday night, the Blaze face Edinburgh at home before travelling to take on Dundee on Thursday night.
