At Brandon tonight in front of the Sky Sports cameras, the Eastbourne Eagles were the visitors to the Brandon shale in Sky's first live Elite League match of the 2008 season.

The Eagles team contained ex-Coventry skipper Scott Nicholls who was a class above the whole night racing to a 5 ride 12 point haul, crashing out in a thrilling final race with Chris Harris whilst goign for the full house 15 points. Alongside him another ex-Bee Lee Richardson started with a poor 1st ride but thereafter provided invaluable support, but in truth the whole Eagles side were just too strong for the Bees, consistantly being the faster out of the gate on a track that didn't offer too many options for passing.

The match was delicately poised coming into heat 9 but 2 heat advantages for Eastbourne suddenly had the Bees 8 points down and facing an uphill battle, especially with Scott out in heats 13 and 15.

The gap proved too much with the pivotal heat 14 going the way of the Eagles after Billy Janniro, aboard one of Chris Harris bikes, slowed due to mechanical gremlins, ensuring that the Bees went into the final race 8 points down, thus giving the Eagles an early 3 points for the away win.

The final score was Coventry 43 Eastbourne 47.
