Coventry City supporter and Rugby World Cup winner Martin Johnson has been announced after weeks of speculation as the new England Rugby Union team manager.

Johnson, the son of a Coventrian, hails from Solihull and had 84 caps for England after getting into the sport from playing American Football.

He will replace Brian Ashton, who had 22 games in charge of England and got them to the Rugby World Cup Final last year.

Johnson, who sent a spokesman to release a statement, will take up his new position in July.
