Coventry City Ladies joined a group of school children on a tour of the Ricoh Arena last week to field questions on all aspects of playing football. With their male counterparts unavailable Helen Dermody, Emily Hanson and Nikki Miles stepped in at the eleventh hour and were treated to a full scale press call with the kids. Ladies' Manager Paul Cudby was delighted to send three of his most promising youngsters to assist.
"Helen, Emily and Nikki are three technically sound players and graduates of our Centre of Excellence; they're proof that we always give our own young players a chance to develop here at Coventry. The three of them are great representatives of the club and have a first rate attitude in everything they do" proclaimed Cudby.
"We didn't really know what to expect before we walked in" explained last season's top scorer, Dermody "the kids had some information about us in their bags so knew a little bit about who we were. After taking our seats at the front of the press room we were faced with all manner of questions, from which position we played in to how many goals we'd scored and what it felt like to pull on a Sky Blues shirt for the first time".
Hanson added "it was nice to get a chance to tell the kids a little about ladies football as most them assumed that it was the same as the men's game. They asked us how much we get paid and they couldn't believe it when we told them that we don't".
Lara Thorns, the Sky Blues' Community Liaison Officer, said: "Special thanks must go out to the children that took part and course our guest speakers, who were fantastic".
