Coventry Blaze are through to the Elite League Play-Off Finals after a thrilling 4-2 victory at Newcastle Vipers this evening.

At the Metro Arena in Newcastle, Blaze went into the game having drawn 2-2 with Newcastle Vipers last night and had more shots than the home side but it was the Geordies who scored the openng goal of the evening in the second minute of the second period.

With Greg Wood off the ice for two minutes due to the Blaze having two many players on the ice, Chris McAllister fired home assisted by Rob Wilson.

The Blaze continued to pepper the Newcastle goal but still trailed as the match went into the third period.

Two minutes, forty-four seconds in and Coventry's chances of making it to next weekend's Play Off Finals in Nottingham greatly improved, when they were level thanks to Jon Weaver firing home from a Dan Carlson assist for a power play goal.

With nine minutes of the match remaining, Danny Stewart sent the travelling Blaze support into a frenzy when he found the net assisted by Carlyle Lewis and Mat Soderstrom.

Newcastle promptly equalised on 53.25 when Chris McAllister scored unassisted. But The Blaze hit back on 57.40 thanks to Sylvain Deschatelets hitting the back of the net, assisted by Jon Weaver and Blake Forsyth.

The Geordies took off their net minder to try and get back in the match but in the Final second, Coventry Blaze booked their place in Nottingham for next weekend's Finals when Dan Carlson scored unassisted.
