Coventry Sphinx shot to the top of the Midland Floodlit League Eastern Division with a 6-0 win at Banbury United.

John Woodward's side should have been four goals up before Ryan Mulholland headed in after 19 minutes.

On the half hour mark, Sphinx scored again thanks to Michael Wallace flicking home a Dion Barrett cross.

Barrett was in superb form bossing the midfield and always looking to get Sphinx going forward.

Two minutes into the second half, a third goal came from a stunning thirty yard free kick from leading scorer Gianni Dainty which dipped over the keeper and into the bottom corner.

There had only been one team in the match and a fourth goal came in the 49th minute when Luke Elvridge turned inside the area and thumped a shot past the hapless keeper.

On the hour mark,Dainty's shot on turn from the edge off the area beat the keeper for the fifth goal of the game.

Elvridge completed the rout which should have been in double figures with a deft chip over the keeper in the 65th minute.

Next Thursday,Sphinx face second placed Bedworth United at Sphinx Drive.
