For once, Coventry City Council has been united and the cause is the Ricoh Arena being in with a good chance of being a 2015 World Cup Rugby venue and a training venue for countries competing in 2018 football World Cup.

Councillor Gary Ridley has launch a proposal which states: "The city council calls upon the city and all our key partners to promote the Ricoh Arena as an important venue within England's bids for Rugby and Football World Cups."

Leader of the opposition, Labour Counillor John Mutton, said to the CT: "We'll be supporting this as we're all very proud of our achievements - not only for having the vision for the Ricoh Arena but for going ahead and building it.
"The council and the city should move heaven and earth to bring both competitions to Coventry."
