Coventry To Get A Walk Of Fame

Local music historian Pete Chambers has had his proposal accepted by Coventry City Council for a Walk of Fame project to be located in central Coventry.

The Walk of Fame will consist of an initial ten plaques, bearing the name of ten worthy 'Coventry Legends', to be voted by the public. It is proposed that each year a new 'Legend' will be added, also from public nomination.

This will give the people of the area, a chance to nominate whom 'they want' in the Walk of Fame. It's open to all fields, not just music of course, sportsmen and sportswoman, inventors, actors and actresses and historical figures. Nominees don't necessarily need to have been born in the city, but they must have, or had, a strong connection with it. There will be a selection board that will oversee the final ten inductees.

The location has yet to be decided, but it is hoped the project will become a popular attraction for the city, it's people and of course it's Legends.

Quote: "The City of Sheffield, already has a similar project, I figured isn't it about time we started honouring some of the people connected with this great city of ours? Many of our 'Legends' have made a big difference not just in Britain, but also in some cases the world. I'm hoping that there will be a lot of healthy debates from this. Everyone will have an idea of who they want represented, so it's important that when the nominating starts, people will make theirs count". Pete Chambers.

Quote: "Coventry has a great past with some great names and it's right that we recognise their contributions to life in Coventry -people like Mo Mowlam, Frank Whittle and those from the world of sport. "That is exactly what this walkway will do." Cllr Gary Ridley, cabinet member for culture, leisure and libraries.
